Staines & District Caged Bird Society Summer Show in conjunction with the Egham Royal Show. This year there were two competitions, a young stock show, held on the Saturday were exhibitors showed off some of the youngsters they have bred this year, while the popular main competition was held on the Sunday. Egham Royal Show/Staines CBS Saturday Young Stock Show Report - (Right click and save as to download) The Cage Bird show, organised by Staines CBS enjoyed an entry of 130 birds for their annual summer show held on the second day of the event. The society was pleased with the good turn out as there had been fears the entry would be down as some regular exhibitors were either absent or engaged in judging this year’s event. In order to show off the fancy in the best light competitive entries were complemented with an aviary display and literature from various bird keeping organisations. The introduction of a pet bird show also proved popular with entries from both adult and junior exhibitors.
Best in show, best foreign and best budgerigar were all won by show regular Terry Sayers of the Isle of Wight making the journey to the mainland very worthwhile. Although judges reported that a beginner budgerigar from John Holden had received serious consideration for the top budgerigar award.
Another exhibitor scooping several specials was Mrs Barbara Hicks taking best novice Gloster, best CYB in show with a pair of silverbills and best CYB Bengalese. Other foreign bird winners included Geoff Deeble winning best Australian finch, while Brown and Rayner won all the zebra finch specials, Dave Brown and family followed this up with a win in the Bengalese section with a pair of fawn and whites.
A small but competitive canary section saw Dave Collier continue his winning streak from the young stock show the previous day, winning best canary with a fine Corona. Other canary winners included A. Young best Fife and K Norris best new colour.
The junior award was won by R Hughes with a very well presented gouldian finch. New exhibitors are always welcome, and special classes are provided for junior bird keepers, for further information about Staines & District CBS and a schedule please contact Dave Brown 01784 452137 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
