Health & Safety

Policy Statement

It is the policy of the Egham & Thorpe Royal Horticultural & Agricultural Association that visitors to the Egham Royal Show are made to feel welcome and are not subjected to unacceptable risks to their health & safety. Additionally, visitors are required to comply with the Associations policies and procedures and should not cause unacceptable risks to health & safety of the Association’s staff, members or other visitors and attendees at the Show.

The Association is committed to providing a healthy and safe work environment for all staff, members and attendees of the Egham Royal Show as required by section2 (2)(e) of the HASAWA etc 1974; the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Entertainment is now included in the scope of the 2015 amendment of the Construction Design Management Regulations.

The Association draws to the attention of every member or official their duty under HASAWA to take reasonable care for health & safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work and to co-operate with the Committee as regards any duty or requirement imposed on them by statute.

The Association has carried out a general Risk Assessment in terms of Section 3 (1) (a) & (b) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992. And a Fire Risk Assessment in terms Part 2 Section 9 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Copies of which are available at the Association’s ERS Office or via this website.

All attendees at the ERS are reminded that Officers of Environmental Health of Runnymede Borough Council or Surrey County Council Trading Standards are empowered to enter the Showground at all times to carry out their statutory responsibilities. The ERS operates under an animal gathering licence from DEFRA and is enforced by Trading Standards. Officers of Surrey Police may also be present on the Showground.

We appreciate that a large number of visitors attending the Show are members of the general public who will not be familiar with machinery, equipment or animals with which they are likely to come in contact with. When considering safety precautions to be observed, account should be taken of special problems which might be created which will almost certainly be different and more comprehensive than would be the case under normal family conditions. Members of the public will be of all ages and of mixed abilities.
