Vintage & Classic Vehicle

Written by Douglas Newton.

For thirty years or more, the Vintage and Classic Car Show has been an integral part of the wonderful Egham Royal Show.

The car show element seems to perfectly ‘fit-in’ with the overall concept of the Egham show. And with over 200 cars expected to attend across the weekend, it’s become a respected meeting place for some of the finest cars in the South.

Committee Member, Douglas Newton, knows a thing or two about organising a car show. And so he should... he’s been attending the Egham show every year for the past 30 years. His beautiful 1950 Bentley Mk6 accompanying him for the last15 year, and along the way Douglas took on the role of ‘Car Show Organiser’ for which we thank him.

With an impressive array of vehicles through the ages, and covering many genres, the show does have a 30 year cut-off which is generally recognised. Although we do have some special, younger vehicles admitted from time-to-time.
Thankful for their presence at many of our previous shows, we look forward to welcoming back the likes of Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Lagonda, Ferrari, Vauxhall, Bentley, Austin, Morris, Riley, Ford, BMW, Matchless, Triumph, Velocette, Arial, BSA, Norton and many more besides.

So whether you’re a Sports Car lover, or you could be into Commercial vehicles, or maybe Euro-Classics, American Muscle, Custom cars, or is Classic Motor Cycles your interest?
Whatever takes your fancy will likely be on display this year at Egham.

Many of our show car owners have been coming to Egham for decades, and although it may have started as a ‘local show’ we now receive cars from far and wide.

Throughout the day, the visiting public are encouraged to review the cars on display, and asked to vote for their own, particular favourite.
Whilst the panel of expert judges preside over specific categories, the ‘Best of Show’ winner is chosen by you, the wonderful classic vehicle appreciating public.

Towards the end of each of the show days, there is our famous ‘Grand Parade’ of vehicles.
Every car, van, truck and bike assembles in the arena and can be seen driving, giving everyone a chance to see the vehicles from every angle. There are interviews with many of the owners, and the stories attached to the ownership of some of these cars are wonderful, and a joy to listen too. Such is the passion in Classic Car Ownership.

With every exhibitor receiving a commemorative brass plaque, as the day draws to a close, the prize winners are brought together front and centre.
Although small cash prizes are awarded, the real prize is in the honour of being chosen as best in class, and that becomes a more difficult task each year, such is the standard of the cars in attendance.
This year we expect judging to be equally as difficult, so do please come along with your pride and joy, bring family and friends maybe, and enjoy the day with us here at the Egham Royal Show.

We look forward to receiving you.

Douglas Newton sends this message to all who wish to enter thir vehicles.

Welcome Motoring Enthusiast,
If you wish to attend our vintage and classic vehicle section at the Egham Royal Show, below you will find an entry form and Condition of Entry.  Please return the forms together with a stamped addressed envelop and your entry fee of £5.00 as soon as possible so I can estimate the number of likely vehicles attending each day.
Because postal charges have risen so I’m asking if you could kindly enclose a stamped addressed envelope.
If you would like to make a donation above the entry fee, it will be gratefully received. The entry fee allows you and your passengers to enter the show on both days; you will also receive a brass commemorative plaque. Around one week before the show I will send you an entry number, which will be your vehicle and passenger pass into the show - no other passes will be issued.  I will also enclose a map showing the location of the show ground.
If anyone has any spare time to help the grounds staff setting up the showground during the week leading up to the show my committee and I would like to hear from you.   Once again, thank you for your support - the show committee and I really appreciate your visit to our show.   I look forward to seeing new entrants plus my regulars and friends.
If you wish to be automatically sent an entry form net year please include a second stamped addressedenvelope with your entry
Kind regards,
Douglas Newton  -  Past President, Trustee and organizer of the vintage and classic vehicle section
