Livestock

Written by James Doran.

For 2016, we will have a full display of rare breed livestock including pigs, sheep and cattle - including the versatile dairy and beef breed Dexter. This is complimented by the educational story of the processing of milk and our wonderful herd of wooden cows which children can milk. Milk & More will sponsor a free sample of milk for children to take away to complete the experience.

The highlight of the livestock section being the competitive classes, on Saturday for the 7th year running we have modern and traditional breed pig classes that for 2016 are again officially BPA (British Pig Association) affiliated and for the 6th year in a row, we have the return of the very successful Dexter classes endorsed by the Dexter Breed Society with an afternoon grand parade and prize giving by our President. On Sunday we have rare, minority and traditional breed sheep classes in accordance with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust categories in the judging ring, followed by a main arena grand parade and presentation of cups by our President in the afternoon. A full schedule can be downloaded below.

Come and watch the livestock classes being judged in the adjacent judging rings with full informative commentary throughout. Livestock exhibitors are also on hand to answer any questions you may wish to ask.

This section offers something for all ages, an engaging experience with informative breed displays and a great heritage exhibit for your interest.
