Livestock Report for 2010
2010 saw the re-introduction or competitive rare and modern traditional pig classes for the first time since 1997 which were enthusiastically supported with entries and welcomed by pig breeders as a great addition to their show calendar. We had a good display of rare breed sheep both days with many more arriving on Sunday for the well supported competitive classes. It was a delight to have Dexter cattle on display which we plan to develop into a niche completive cattle section this year 2011. The livestock section was complimented by a wonderful array of rare breed poultry, alpaca and small animals for children to admire such as rabbits, ducks and guinea pigs. A big thank you to Phoenix for the brilliant model cows that children could simulate milking by hand alongside our eductational story of milk; form field to fridge. As always the judging ring was crowded with spectators keen to learn more about each breed, the hands on experience for children to mingle with the piglets and learn pig and sheep handling skills was well received by the children as an enjoyable actively whilst parents appreciated the educational value. Overall a very successful year.
